5th Avenue

Yesterday was an exciting day for me.  Dale and I got up early, left Dorian to sleep, and headed to 5th Avenue for some window shopping.  Guess what we saw first?

Too funny, eh?  We grabbed a couple iced coffees and quickly realized that while we've been in the US, we have turned into Starbucks fans.  It's just all around better coffee.  But how funny was it to see a Tim Horton's so close to Times Square!!

Here's some pictures of what we saw on 5th Avenue (or nearby 5th Avenue):

(Rockefeller Plaza)

And now the stores:

First stop:  Saks 5th Avenue, directly to the 8th floor, Shoe Department, where I held in my hot little hands this season's Jimmy Choo's.  Most expensive:  $995.  My hands trembled as I lifted the masterpiece to view it more closely.  Positively inspirational.  Lovely.  So very, very lovely.  *drool*

And then other stores that I didn't dare venture into were:

And then finally, I saw it.  I've been waiting for this for almost a year, and saving for it just as long ($20/per cheque for the last 8 months just for this moment):

A classic Tiffany's bracelet that I picked out right from the store itself.  Totally thrilling!!

One thing that was a bit of a pleasant surprise for us were the churches located on 5th Ave.  Incredible.  So incredible.  Check them out:

Stunning.

Dale and I ventured back to the apartment for a little relaxation before taking Dorian to Nike Town.  Dorian had been looking forward to this moment just as I had for Tiffany's.  Dale suggested I stay back to relax and said that he would take him up there.  What a sweetie!!

Dorian sat down in the Nike Studio with a Nike consultant and designed his own runners, high tops, for delivery in about a month.  After a few stressful moments of ensuring we had the right address and phone number (they won't ship to Canada, so the shoes are being shipped to Aunty Marcy), Dorian paid for the shoes himself (with money that he has saved on his own).   The look on the boy's face when they came back was priceless.  For those of you who have or have had teenage boys, smiles and excitement are a rare, rare moment.  He told me about every step, every decision, every choice of colour and design and it was just SO rewarding to see Dorian totally pumped up.  If nothing else, that moment made this entire trip absolutely worth every cent.

W have decided that this is enough of New York for this family of 3, and end it on a high note to head out to the Cape.  We leave around noon or so to finally visit Aunty Marcy and Pam.

Hugs to all,

M.
